Support Services

Staff in The IT Shop work closely with those in the Information Services Directorate (INSRV) to ensure that they are able to solve all your IT problems quickly and reliably. If you are unsure whether the fault on your computer is a hardware or a network problem, come to The IT Shop and, in liaison with INSRV, we will help you find out what the problem is and advise you on what you need to do next.

Repair and Upgrade Services

The IT Shop offers a full repair/upgrade service from data recovery or software installation to major hardware repairs such as motherboard replacements, all at very competitive rates.

Rental Laptops

Our Rental Laptops, which have Microsoft Office and anti-virus software pre-installed, are ready-to-use on Cardiff University's wireless network , CU-WiFi (hotspots can be found in most libraries and will soon be available right across Campus). They can also be used on LAPNET and on RESLAN , the University Residences' network. Each laptop is fully insured and in the unlikely event that you should suffer a technical problem we will get it fixed or replaced immediately.

Leased Laptops

If you choose to lease a laptop from us, we will help to enable connectivity to the University Network, if required. Please note that, although staff in The IT Shop will assist you with any Windows Vista issues wherever possible, the University offers full support at this time for Windows XP, not Vista.

Most of our Laptops come complete with insurance and/or a three-year warranty (or the option to purchase them).
